Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). Symptoms vary and can range from “bouncing off the walls” energy to spaciness and disorganization.
Intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear that interferes with daily life. Includes separation anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, panic disorders, generalized anxiety. Symptoms can include a sense of impending doom, restlessness or listlessness, sweating, rapid heartbeat, or trouble concentrating and / or sleeping.
Sometimes referred to as manic-depressive illness, bipolar disorder is marked by swift, unusual mood changes and energy levels, as well as an inability to carry out daily tasks. People suffering from this disorder demonstrate periods of intense emotion called “mood episodes.” These episodes are also marked by extreme changes in energy, activity, and sleep. People experiencing bipolar can feel both depression and high energy at the same time.
This disorder is characterized by an overwhelming feeling of sadness as well as a loss of interest in life in general. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, sleep problems, lack of energy, slowed thinking, speaking and body movements, agitation, feelings of worthlessness and guilt, and suicidal thoughts.
Grief is the natural response to losing someone or something important, such as a person, a relationship, or a job. Those suffering from grief may experience overwhelming sadness, anger, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, depression, crying, loneliness, and guilt. People experience grief in personal ways and time frames, with times of healing and times of regression.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder is marked by a pattern of hostile, disobedient, argumentative behavior in children directed at authority figures. It is characterized by hostile, angry moods, as well as vindictiveness. Children suffering from ODD will often purposely cause conflict and work to annoy others.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), is an emotional response to a terrible event, such as an accident, rape, combat / war, or natural disaster. Shock and denial are common after the event, with long-term results for some people such as strained relationships, roller-coaster emotions, flashbacks, and physical reactions like nausea and headaches. Many of these feelings and symptoms are normal after a distressing event, but some people find it difficult to move on with their lives.
